Gun Violence

I respect the Second Amendment rights of responsible gun owners. However, it is crucial to address gun violence in our communities and schools through common-sense solutions. Growing up, I learned the seriousness of firearms – they demand responsible handling to prevent tragedy. 

Both Republicans and Democrats can unite in our shared goal: keeping firearms out of the hands of domestic abusers, violent criminals, and those who pose a danger to themselves or others. If we can prevent even one death, it's a cause worth pursuing.

As your State Representative, I am committed to working collaboratively with my colleagues to address the epidemic of gun violence. My priorities include:

1. Closing the Background Check Loophole

   • Support comprehensive background checks on all firearm purchases and transfers, closing existing loopholes, whether in person or online.

2. Implementing Evidence-Based Strategies

   • Advocating for waiting periods between firearm purchase and retrieval, allowing accurate background checks and a crucial "cooling off" period.

3. Enforcing Protective Order Surrender

   • Working towards strict enforcement of existing laws mandating individuals with protective orders to surrender their firearms, ensuring accountability across jurisdictions.

 

By adopting a bipartisan, common-sense approach, we can protect the right to bear arms while fostering safer communities. Together, we can find solutions that prioritize both Second Amendment rights and the well-being of our communities.
